

The first domestic thermal simulation test system for hydrogen-rich low-carbon smelting, jointly developed and implemented by Shanghai University, Henan Metallurgical Planning and Design Institute Co., Ltd., and Xingguo Foundry, was successfully put into operation on December 16, 2021. The operation of the test system aims to focus on developing the theoretical basis and process prototype of key core technologies for low-carbon smelting that utilize hydrogen to replace carbon in metallurgical processes, to tackle key core technologies and promote their complete set, equipment, and industrialization, and to accelerate the transition of low-carbon smelting technology from fragmented laboratory basic research to industrial application. It also aims to build a complete low-carbon circular economy industrial chain encompassing hydrogen production, hydrogen storage and transportation, hydrogen-rich/pure hydrogen metallurgical applications, and carbon capture, conversion, and utilization, leading cutting-edge research in the basic theory and engineering related fields of hydrogen metallurgy and low-carbon smelting.
